Thank you Anaheim Public Library for purchasing these new Ozobots for us to use in our summer camps and future programs! We are excited to incorporate them into our coding curriculum. They provide screen-free coding and are great for teaching computational thinking, logic, and software programming.

Today wrapped up our final lesson for the Spring semester's Intermediate Python workshop series. We got together twice a month for an hour each time, and the students picked up a lot of new skills. Today, we went over everything we've learned and celebrated with an end-of-semester party full of snacks. There was an Emergency Evacuation because of a chemical spill a few blocks away, so we were glad to welcome any students affected by it who were staying at the nearby emergency

We learned the concept of string slicing and how to extract words and phrases from sentences or strings. We played games around these concepts and went over practice problems as well.

Today we learned all about Python turtle. We learned to draw shapes, create color and text with turtle. This will be our foundation for creating video games in our next Python sessions.

Today we had our first Beginner Python Workshop at Euclid Branch of Anaheim Library. This is a brand new branch for us as we are expanding our program. Thank you to Camden and Colin for being our volunteer interns to help teach the class.

Today we went into depth in how to use dictionaries and how they are helpful in data organization. Next class, we will practice using them in our game that we are building out.

Today we continued with our Intermediate Python class and programmed a banking simulation program where a user can deposit and withdraw money. After the Intermediate class was over, we taught a Beginner Python class and we had a great turn out of 10 new students from the community. Today we started off with a warm-up problem from CodingBat and then we covered our topic of the day which was learning how to create Classes.

Today we learned did practice problems on CodingBat and the concepts we reviewed concepts on functions, conditional statements and loops. We learned how to use the absolute value function as well. Our group ranges from 4th grade to 10th grade and we are so proud of how far everyone has come in their coding abilities!

Today we coded a Hangman Game from start to finish!

We started off the New Year with our first Intermediate Python Workshop! Our beginner group has built a solid foundation and are ready to continue building with intermediate Python programming. We started off with a review and coded a program, the Silly Mad Libs Story Generator. Our learning objectives achieved were: ☐ Use input() to get words from the user ☐ Store information in variables ☐ Use print() to tell a story ☐ Run my code in Python Sandbox

Young Makers Academy held 9 successful coding workshops to students ages 9-16 from March 2025 to December 2025. In 2026, we hope to expand to 5 more library branches and offer not only Beginner Python workshops but also Intermediate Python workshops to continue learning and building with code. We completed our beginner Python workshop series that met from Sept-Dec 2025 and the students received certificates of completion. We learned a lot during these 4 months and the students are eager to advance their skills in 2026. Thank you Anaheim Library for providing us with a pizza party to celebrate the end of the season. Looking forward to new workshops in 2026!
